Alcaucin is a village steeped in history, originally founded by the Arabs the village was named Al Cautin (The Bows). Evidence of its Moorish background can still found around and within the traditional white walled Spanish buildings with wrought iron balconies and narrow streets.
This charming village is perched on the slopes of the Sierra de Tejeda,
and is famed for many things ranging from its fun fiestas and fairs (throughout the summer months) to its pure mountain spring water available through the famed five-spouted Fuente San Sebastián fountain where villagers and tourists fill their water carriers daily.
Alcaucin borders the National Park that proves to provide endless walks and picnics for all. With walks ranging from a gentle afternoon stroll with the dog to a long and testing trek to the top of Mount Maroma (the highest mountain in Axarquia).
